Presentation of "Nakhchivan dialectological atlas of Azerbaijani language" was held by the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS.
At the event, Vice President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli emphasized the preparation of the map within "State Program on the use of Azerbaijani language in accordance with the requirements of time in the conditions of globalization and the linguistic development in the country" approved by the President Ilham Aliyev's Order dated April 9, 2013. I.Habibbeyli reminded academician-secretary of the Division of Human Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Teymur Karimli’s a report on "How we know the modern Azerbaijani language? Problem solving and ways of solution" at the meeting of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of ANAS, in May of this year.
He also lined out the competition between masters and doctoral students of ANAS on "Our mother tongue is our nationality" competition to promote love and respect for mother tongue, to encourage strict adherence to literary language in writing and verbal speech.
The academician said that discussions were underway on the rules of preparation of the new spelling dictionary in ANAS and certain proposals were made by the Linguistic Institute. He emphasized that this issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the Presidium next week. The new rules will reflect the demands of the independence period, Vice-President of ANAS stated.
According to the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated November 13, 2017, the new composition of the State Language Commission has been approved and the Institute of Linguistics will carry out monitoring on the protection of the Azerbaijani language, Academic noted.
Then, Kifayat Imamguliyeva, head of the Azerbaijani dialectology department at the Linguistics Institute, presented the atlas to the event participants. She said the dialectology of the Azerbaijani language was last published in the middle of the last century. The scientist said that all the fields of linguistics were reflected in the new atlas, and that they were presented to readers in Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian and English languages.
Academician-secretary of DHS, academician Teymur Karimli, director of Linguistics Institute, academician Mohsun Nagisoylu, head of the permanent representation of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in Baki Bakhtiyar Askerov, professor Gazanfar Pashayev and others touched upon the importance of publication of the atlas. It was noted that the material collected at the atlas once again proves that Nakhchivan is an ancient Azerbaijani land, and this is the most consistent response to Armenia claiming our historical territories.
