December 10 - An international event dedicated to the World Human Rights Day to be held

An international event dedicated to the 10th of December - World Human Rights Day was held at the Institute of Law and Human Rights of ANAS on December 14 at 12:00, organized jointly by this organization and the United Nations (UN) Office in Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the event, Director of the Institute, Doctor of Law, Professor Ayten Mustafazadeh noted that, on December 10, 1948 the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Rights, a human, consisting of 30 articles. It was noted that, this declaration is one of the first international documents proclaiming the idea of the equality of people. The scientist brought to attention that the declaration was signed with the goal of achieving peace, and next year at the world level will mark the 70th anniversary of the document.

A.Mustafazade underlined that, today all over the world there are problems related to human rights, and the main problems of the world now are separatism, extremism and terrorism. It was said that, Azerbaijan had faced terrorism with terrorism 25 years ago, and practical steps towards the solution of Armenian terrorism are not being taken at the moment.

Director of the institute recalled that in 1995, under the leadership of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted, based on human rights. She noted that, since 1996, in order to improve human rights in our country, the National Plan of Action for the Protection of Human Rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan is adopted every 5 years.

Then, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Ishagzai said that, the declaration covers human rights in the cultural, social, economic, political, civil and other spheres. G.Ishagzai drew attention to the active participation of Azerbaijan in UN programs on human rights, as well as the continuation of the policy of supporting the protection and development of human rights, based on the declaration.

At the conference, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova delivered her report "The role of the Ombudsman Institute in the field of human rights in Azerbaijan", chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Hijran Huseynova on "The family is a fundamental and natural part of society , which must be protected by society and the state (article 16)", Deputy chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Sayad Salahli "Freedom of Religion of Citizens in Azerbaijan and Steps Made to Protect it (Article 19)", Deputy Hikmet Mammadov on "All people have an equal right to defend themselves (Article 7)", Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Baku State University Amir Aliyev – on "The role of education and Enlightenment in the field of human rights protection", Head of the Legal Department of the Council of State Support of Non-Governmental Organizations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rauf Majidbeyli on "The Role of Civil Society Organizations exist in the protection of human rights in Azerbaijan", the representative of Azerbaijan NGO Alliance for Children's Rights Kamala Ashumova on "Calls for the protection of children's rights in modern times".

Within the framework of the event was demonstrated a video message of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
