Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The republican scientific conference devoted to the 80th anniversary of the famous scientist, correspondent member of ANAS Aliyar Safarli was held the Electronic Hall of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi.

At the event were also presented books published on the basis of "Selected Works", "Bibliographic Indicator" and conference materials of outstanding scientist.

Speaking at the conference, vice-president of ANAS, director of the institute, academician Isa Habibbayli said that A.Safarli is one of the well-known researchers of medieval Azerbaijani literature. He noted that the scientist discovered the first poem in the native language "Dastani Ahmed Harami", "Divan" by Gazi Burhanaddin, Mohammed Fuzuli's "Hegiget us-sueda" and etc.

Academician A.Safarli is engaged in diplomatic activity and worked as Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Iran in 1994-1998. He said the scientist plays an important role in the establishment of scientific, cultural and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.

Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Baku State University, academician Vasim Mammadaliyev said that A.Safarli had enriched Azerbaijan literature with historical facts.

Director of the Institute of Linguistics, academician Mohsen Nagisoylu shared his memories of the scientist and  how they were working as translators in Afghanistan. Saying that the scientist is a true patriotic intellectual, M.Najisoylu noted that A.Safarli's medieval research works and textbooks play an important role in educating our society, especially the younger generation.

MP Adil Aliyev, professors - Mammad Aliyev, Khalil Yusifli, associate professor Zakulla Bayramli and PhD in philology Gunal Safarli spoke about scientist's literary criticism.

Academician-secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences of ANAS, academician Teymur Karimli and the head of the department of medieval Azerbaijan literature of the institute, doctor of philology Farida Azizova delivered lectures.

The conference continued on division sessions.
