Bureau of ANAS Division of Social Sciences held next meeting on 14 February.

First of all, President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh awarded Academician Teymur Bunyatov the Order of the Republic of Azerbaijan "Sharaf" ("Honor") and the group of young scientists - Honorary Diplomas of ANAS.

The report, reflecting the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS in 2017, academician-secretary of the Department, academician Nargiz Akhundova reported.

Scientist reported that, in connection with the "Year of Islamic Solidarity" a number of activities were carried out, books were published, joint multidisciplinary scientific research was conducted. The speaker published statistical data on important scientific results: "In the scientific institutions of the department, research was conducted in 8 scientific areas, covering 33 problems, 129 topics, 277 stages and 297 works, 225 works completed in 228 works on 57 topics, 8 scientific results . In 2017, the scientific institutions of the department published 67 books, 3 of which were published abroad, 100 monographs, 6 of which were published abroad, 1251 articles, 325 of which were published abroad, 417 abstracts, 71 of which were published abroad. In journals with impact factor, 39 articles of employees were published, 850 times were referred to the works of scientists. Also, the department organized 19 events of the republican and 16 events at the international level".

Speaking about the training of personnel, she noted that, in the reporting year, 22 theses for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and 1 thesis for the degree of Doctor of Sciences were defended. Having said that currently 32 in the full-time department, 38 on doctor's degree, and 174 theses, the academician added that 2 people continue their studies in the magistracy.

The reporter noted that, in the reporting year the measures aimed at integrating science and education were also continued. She stressed that, in a number of institutes and organizations of the department, students of higher schools were practicing. At the same time, at the events organized in the higher and secondary educational institutions of the city of Baku, scientists made presentations on various topics.

Informing that, the international relations of the department expanded, academician noted that, the scientific institutions continued cooperation with scientific centers and higher educational institutions of the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, Israel, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Japan, China and other countries.

Speaking about the state of electronic science, Nargiz Akhundova said that, last year the site of the branch was improved, the opportunities for the employees of scientific institutions to access international electronic resources were expanded. At the same time, she stressed that the sites of several scientific institutions were reconstructed, and the rest continued their activities more thoroughly. It was noted that, as a result of monitoring conducted among scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS to identify the winning sites in the category "Best Website of the Year", the sites of the two scientific institutions of the department were awarded the 3rd and 4th places.

Speaking about awards and prizes, the reporter reported that in the reporting year the scientific activity of the department staff was highly appreciated by the state, as well as by local and foreign organizations. Musa Gasimli, the director of the Institute of Caucasus Studies, corresponding member of ANAS, was awarded the Order "Shohrat" ("Glory"). Nargiz Akhundova also reported that several employees of the department were awarded national and international awards.

After listening to the report, academicians Isa Habibbayli, Ziyad Samadzadeh, Teymur Bunyadov, Yagub Mahmudov, Govkhar Bakhshaliyeva, Corresponding Members of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov, Shahbaz Muradov, Doctor of Law, Professor Ayten Mustafazadeh and others made their comments and suggestions.

Further, Presidium adopted a resolution approving the report and including it in the annual report of ANAS. Instructions were given in connection with such issues as the organization of joint events aimed at fulfilling the orders of the head of state "On the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic" and "On the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis in 1918", the preparation in this regard of the scientific- research papers and their presentation to the public, as well as the expansion of the use of staff of the Thomson Reuters database and other scientific databases, the identification of specialties in the field of magistracy and doctoral studies social sciences, meeting modern requirements, and strengthening control over the process of attracting young professionals to such rare specialties as numismatics, epigraphy, anthropology, ethnosociology, culturology, etc.

At the event, decisions were made on making partial changes to the structure of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, as well as holding 60-year anniversaries of the Institute of Oriental Studies and the Institute of Economics of ANAS.
