ANAS main building held a scientific conference on "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic: historical retrospect and modernity" on February 20.

Academician Isa Habibbayli, ANAS Vice-President, reminded of the Order of President Ilham Aliyev "On the Conduct of the 100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic" on May 16, 2017, at the event held with the joint organizational support of the Department of Social Sciences and the Institute of the History of Science. He stressed that, today the anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is celebrated in the independent Azerbaijan Republic at the state, international level and the level of the Turkic world. The scientist also brought to the attention the organization in ANAS of a series of events within the framework of the "Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic".

Academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the processes that took place during the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), reforms and creative works carried out in the field of science, education, culture and other spheres. He stressed that the attitude to the history of the ADR was not always unambiguous. Thus, during Soviet times the history of the republic was distorted and falsified, important moments were hidden. After the restoration of our independence in 1991, facts were revealed about the history of the republic, archives were revealed and made public. The decree signed by the great leader Heydar Aliyev in January 1998 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the formation of the ADR gave a powerful impetus to this work.

"The announcement of this year as the Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is important from the point of view of studying the history of the republic," the scientist said and stressed that the ADR is one of the brightest pages in the history of not only Azerbaijan but the entire Turkic and Islamic world and, East.

The Turkish Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Azerbaijan Erkan Ozoral addressed the reasons for the creation and disintegration of the ADR, the factors that revealed the limitations that arose in relations with Turkey, the current state of the Azerbaijani-Turkish friendly relations, not lost even after the restoration of our state independence at the end of the 20th th century. It was noted that 100 years have passed since the liberation of Baku from the Armenian-Bolshevik occupation by the Caucasian Islamic Army led by Nuru Pasha and the Azerbaijan Corps. This significant day left a deep mark in the history of the Azerbaijani people.

"The glorious battle path of the Caucasian Islamic Army is a joint chronicle of the heroism of Azerbaijan and Turkey," adding that the historical merits of the founder of the Turkish state, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev will be honored with deep respect for centuries. It was brought to the attention that thanks to sincere friendship and brotherhood of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, our countries are developing rapidly. Our countries and peoples, as in all periods of history, constantly support each other.

Academician-secretary of the Department of Social Sciences of ANAS, academician Nargiz Akhundova in her speech noted that during the ADR period, a parliament was established in the country and forms of governing the republic were elected. She stressed that the Republic of Azerbaijan is the spiritual and legal successor of the ADR, and reported on the need to identify by domestic scientists the hidden facts associated with the above period.

Director of the Institute of the History of Science, Doctor of Historical Sciences Maryam Seidbeyli made a presentation on the topic "Historical heredity in Azerbaijani education". She informed about the educational policy of the ADR government and representatives of youth sent to foreign countries for education.
