An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the 31 March genocide committed by the Armenian vandals against Azerbaijanis was held at the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS.
Firstly, the victims of the genocide were commemorated with a minute of silence.
The event was opened by the director of the institute, academician Mohsun Nagisoylu and reminded that President Ilham Aliyev signed the Order of 18 January 2018 "On the 100th anniversary of the 1918 genocide of Azerbaijanis".
Armenians had historically carried out a genocide policy against Azerbaijanis and that the peak of this was March 31 events. Dashnak-Bolshevik forces headed by Stepan Shaumyan opened fire on Azerbaijanis on March 30, 1918 at 16:40, the speaker underlined.
He noted that the massacres were continued on April 2 in Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangazur, Garabagh, Nakhchivan and other areas.
He recalled that after the independence of Azerbaijan for the second time, the events were objectively evaluated, and the National Leader Heydar Aliyev signed a decree on March 26, 1998, "Declaring March 31 as the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis".
The event was also attended by deputy director of the Institute for Scientific Affairs, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Baba Maharramli, Head of Applied Linguistics Department, Professor Ismayil Mammadli, Professor Roza Eyvazova, PhD in Philology Shabnam Hasanli Garibova and others.
