Social Sciences division holds next bureau meeting

Today at the National Museum of Azerbaijan History of ANAS the next meeting of the Bureau of Social Sciences was held.

Academician-secretary of the Academy, academician Nargiz Akhundova informed about the agenda of the event and noted that today the report on "Importance of Ottoman sources of archives on Azerbaijan's medieval history and perspectives of research" will be heard at the meeting.

Later on, Academician Shahin Mustafayev, deputy director of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Z.Bunyadov, presented the report. Writing sources in the Middle Eastern origin are mainly divided into three groups (historical sources in Arabic, Persian and Turkish), most of the Turkic sources were historical sources of Ottoman origin. Ottoman sources are important for their volume and historical information, including the archives of the Ottoman sources dating back to the end of the sixteenth century and the 20th of the eighteenth century, and the so-called "cadastral record books", the speaker underlined.

The speaker pointed out that, while being involved in historical research, the "cadastral record books" allow us to create a socio-economic picture of the Ottoman Empire.

The reporter said that systematic investigation and publication of Ottoman historical studies in Ottoman history, including the Ottoman "cadastral record books", was related to the name of academician Ziya Bunyadov. He noted that since the 80s of the last century scientists of the Oriental Studies Institute have been consistently conducting this work in Irevan, Nakhchivan, Gandja-Garabagh, Borchali-Gazakh, Lori and Ardabil regions.

At the end of his speech S. Mustafayev emphasized that as a result of these works, it would be possible to prepare the national map of Azerbaijan for a certain period of our history.

Corresponding members of ANAS Konul Bunyadzade, Shahbaz Muradov, Doctor of History Maryam Seyidbeyli made speeches on Ottoman archive sources.

At the end of the meeting it was decided to bring the report to the Presidium of ANAS.
