Students of the Baku State University, SABAH group visited ANAS Institute of Botany

Students of the SABAH group of the Baku State University who received education in the specialty "Teacher of Biology" visited ANAS Institute of Botany.

At the meeting with the head of the Department of Education, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Associate Professor Rashad Salimov, the students were provided with information about the history, activities, research and international relations of the Institute.

Then, students get acquainted with the laboratories of the Institute. Head of the Herbarium Department, PhD in Biology Parvan Garahanli told the students about the importance of the Herbarium Fund in the conservation and application of plant diversity in Azerbaijan. I brought to attention that the botanical institute has a rich herbarium collection of 600,000 specimens, covering 135 families, 1065 genera of the republic's plants.

During the meeting, the students were visually demonstrated the process of including digitized herbarium samples in the Virtual Database of Europe.

Then, head of the Laboratory of Algology and Lychenobiology, Ph.D. in Biology Sheker Mukhtarova acquainted the students with the institute's algotek where samples of primitive plants are stored. Leading researcher of the laboratory, Ph.D. in biology Aygun Babanli informed the students in detail about the structure, classification, phylogeny and evolution of mosses and lichens.

It should be noted that, SABAH groups are created with the aim of improving the quality of education, providing training in accordance with modern requirements in higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education.
