Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

A joint meeting dedicated to the organization of integrated industrial processing and application of new technologies to develop the aluminum industry in the country and increase productivity in this area of the National Academy of Azerbaijan Sciences and OJSC "Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation" (APK OJSC) was held on May 3.

Opening the event, President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh briefly told about the history and current state of the aluminum industry in the republic. He stressed the need for cooperation with relevant organizations aimed at developing such a priority area of the Strategic Roadmap as the processing of the Alunites, and stressed the importance of this meeting from this point of view. The academician highly appreciated the activities carried out until today for the purpose of developing the aluminum industry, increasing productivity and organizing integrated industrial processing, and expressed his confidence that fruitful results will be achieved in the future.

In his speech Kamran Nabizadeh, General Director of OJSC "Agroindustrial Complex" reminded that the organization he led was created by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev on November 6, 2017. He said that, the purpose of establishing this organization is to increase efficiency in the management of state property, to establish a system of reporting and control based on corporate governance principles, and to establish favorable cooperation ties between state-owned institutions. K.Nabizadeh told about the events held by the OJSC "AIC" and aimed at organizing complex industrial processing.

Then the director of the "High Technologies Park" of ANAS, Ph.D in agrarian sciences Vugar Babayev delivered a paper on "Review of the aluminum industry in Azerbaijan". The scientist informed that, the basis of the aluminum industry in the Azerbaijan Republic was laid in 1955 by the creation of the Sumgait aluminum plant. V.Babayev emphasized that in order to provide the plant with local raw materials, in 1966, at the Ganja alumina plant, using alumina Dashkesan, and alumina was started to be produced: "From 1966 to 1997, by the exploitation of the Dashkesan alum and alunite deposit at the Ganja alumina plant, alumina from alunite. During this period, 18.4 million tons of alunite ore were processed, from which 2.1 million tons of alumina, 0.8 million tons of fertilizers, 4.5 million tons of sulfuric acid were produced".

The meeting also listened reports by head of the department of the Institute of ANAS Geology and Geophysics, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Chingiz Kashkay on "Technology of processing of alunite ore that separates its constituent components", Ph.D. in technical sciences, associate professor Telman Israfilov on "Method of processing alum ore with a concentrated solution of alkali Na2O" and Ph.D. in technology, associate professor Eldar Tagiyev on "Alunite ore processing by potash-alkaline method".
