Round Assembly Hall of the Main Building of ANAS held an international symposium on "Ottoman Empire in the First World War - Relations with Azerbaijan and the Caucasian Islamic Army" On September 13. The symposium was organized by ANAS Institute of History jointly with the Turkish Research Center, devoted the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from Dashnak-Bolshevik army.
At the beginning of the event, the hymns of both states were voiced. Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of ANAS, academician Akif Alizadeh said that, the symposium was organized in accordance with the orders of President Ilham Aliyev - "On the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic" and "On the Announcement of the Year 2018 in the Republic of Azerbaijan" Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic".
Academician A.Alizadeh in his speech mentioned the words of President Ilham Aliyev: "The Azerbaijani National Army together with the Caucasian Islamic Army liberated Baku from the Armenian-Bolshevik occupation in September 1918 and returned our ancient historical city of Baku to the Azerbaijani people," the President said in a statement at the official reception, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Stressing that, the 100th anniversary of the ADR in the Republic was celebrated at the state level, the academician said that, today's conference is devoted to the place and role of the Caucasian Islamic Army in the history of our people. The head of ANAS also noted that on September 15, 1918 is of exceptional importance in the Azerbaijani-Turkish friendship and brotherhood, after the arrival of the Caucasian Islamic army headed by Nuru Pasha in Azerbaijan and his struggle against the occupation Armenian-Bolshevik forces, it was on September 15, when the National Government moved from Ganja in Baku, and Baku was declared the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
During his speech, director of the Institute of History of ANAS, academician Yagub Mahmudov, spoke about the liberation of Baku from the occupation, noting in this the merit of Nuru Pasha, and the Caucasian Islamic army he leads. He stressed that during the Soviet era this historical fact was always hidden, the name of Nuru Pasha was not covered anywhere, but a monument was erected in Baku that carried out the genocide against the Azerbaijani people Stepan Shaumyan. But today Azerbaijan is an independent country, historical facts are highlighted in real terms. Y. Makhmudov, speaking about the role of the event occurred on September 15 in the history of Azerbaijan 100 years ago, noted its great importance for the entire Turkic world.
Director of the Turkish Ataturk Research Center, Professor Mehmet Ali Beyhan, speaking at the event, spoke about friendship and cooperation between the two countries, he also noted that the institution he has been in charge for more than 10 years has been cooperating with ANAS. In his speech, the professor informed the participants of the symposium about the historical aspects of the struggle of the Turkic-Caucasian-Islamic army of 1918 against the Russian-Armenian occupation and the joint efforts of the two Turkic peoples in the struggle to drive out the invaders.
Then the Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan Erkan Ozoral spoke. During the speech, he noted the importance of this conference in the transfer of historical values to the future populations such as the joint mission of Azerbaijan and Turkey in the liberation of Baku in 1918, the voluntary participation of Azerbaijanis in the battles at Canakkala, and that the Caucasian Islamic Army in the history of Azerbaijan is of exceptional importance in terms of our national values, Turkic origin and statehood. That's why this topic should always be in the center of attention.
Ercan Ozoral has brought to attention that on September 15, with the participation of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, the 100th anniversary of this historical event will be marked at a high level.
Speaking with the speech, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Ahmed Khaluk Dursun and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Ahmadov spoke about the historical role of the Caucasian Islamic Army and various aspects of this event to date.
