ANAS Presidium held meeting of Division of Social Sciences  on September 21. The event was attended by academician-secretary of the department, academician Nargiz Akhundova, members of the department, heads and employees of scientific institutions.

At the event Director of ANAS Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, Doctor of Historical Sciences Maisa Rahimova delivered a report on "Development of archaeological science in the years of Azerbaijan's independence". She noted that, despite the fact that studies of ancient historical monuments of Azerbaijan for more than 100 years, their fundamental development began in the 70-80s of the last century, during the reign of the national leader Heydar Aliyev. She noted that, at present the President of the country Ilham Aliyev pays much attention and support to the study of archaeological monuments and material and cultural heritage. Signed orders by the head of state in this direction have placed before the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography important tasks for studying the ancient history of our people through archaeological excavations.

In addition, about 40 archaeological and ethnographic expeditions were conducted in the regions of Azerbaijan, the academician said that they are in the center of attention of the ANAS leadership. Then, the scientist listed the latest works in the field of archeology in chronological order. The report was discussed and a decision was made.

At this event the center of anthropology at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS was discussed. In addition, the results of the competition for the replacement of scientific places at the Institute of Economics of ANAS were announced. Personnel issues of several scientific institutions were discussed, and appropriate decisions were made. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of ANAS Institute of Oriental Studies after Z.Bunyadov it was decided to reward a group of employees of this scientific institution.
