The 6th meeting of the Coordination Committee for the transnational serial nomination of the Silk Road on the UNESCO World Heritage List was held in Iran. The event was attended by representatives of 14 countries along the historic Silk Road and a number of prestigious international organizations such as UNESCO and ICOMOS.

At the meeting, our country was represented by deputy director of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after academician Zia Bunyadov, academician Shahin Mustafayev.

S. Mustafayev in his report provided information on scientific research on the Silk Road in Azerbaijan, on the possibilities of our country to participate in the UNESCO Silk Road serial nomination project and prospects for international cooperation.

The speech of the Azerbaijani scientist aroused great interest of the participants in the meeting.

The event announced the official election of Azerbaijan as a member of the Coordination Committee for the transnational serial nomination "Silk Road" according to a letter from Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev dated September 18, 2019 addressed to the director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center M. Rossler.

The main purpose of the meeting was to study the current state of the monuments included in the World Heritage List by discussing the expansion and improvement of case studies on the Silk Road in the project countries, as well as assess the progress made by member countries in developing the Silk Road nominations, and the problems they are facing.
