The opening of the Jalil Mammadguluzadeh House-Museum after a major overhaul

On November 18, after overhaul and reconstruction, the House-Museum of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, a celebrate writer, playwright, publicist, public figure, creator of the journal Molla Nasraddin, was opened.

The opening ceremony was attended by state and government officials, well-known figures of literature, science and culture, representatives of the public, as well as descendants of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh – his great-grandson Martin Javanshiri and his great-great-grandson Przemislav Javanshiri.

First, first deputy minister of Culture Vagif Aliyev stated that, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s rich literary heritage plays a key role in promoting the Azerbaijani ideology, freedom and enlightenment of the Azerbaijani people and maintaining the purity of the Azerbaijani language.

Announcing the opening of new exhibits at the Jalil Mammadguluzadeh House-Museum, V. Aliyev noted that visitors to this cultural center will be able to get acquainted with the writer's work and heritage.

Then a speech was made by the vice president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli. He brought to the attention that the 150th anniversary of J. Mammadguluzadeh was widely celebrated in our country by order of President Ilham Aliyev. He also noted that within the framework of this document, the reconstruction and commissioning of the playwright's house-museum was carried out. According to him, after a 68-year break, the descendants of the family of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh first came to Azerbaijan to open the Mirza Jalil House-Museum. Having said that Mirza Jalil’s grandchildren live in Iran, Poland, France and Ireland, the scientist regarded their visit as a significant event.

Stressing that J. Mammadguluzadeh wrote most of his works in this house, I. Habibbayli said that the writer was invited by the Soviet regime from Iran to our country, but during the year he was not given due attention. He especially noted the exceptional merits of Nariman Narimanov in transferring this house to a prominent playwright. The ANAS vice-president also brought to the attention that the publishing house "Molla Nasraddin" was functioning on the ground floor of the house, where the journal "Molla Nasruddin" was published.

“This house, in which Mirza Jalil lived, was one of the main centers of public opinion in Azerbaijan,” I. Habibbayli said and stressed out that J. Mammadguluzadeh met and exchanged thoughts in this house with prominent Azerbaijani writers and thinkers, including Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Najaf bey Vezirov, Nariman Narimanov and Soltan Majid Ganizadeh. He said that Mirza Jalil is a great master of words who created the school “Molla Nasraddin”, which united the Azerbaijani intelligentsia around itself. One of the main goals of the writer was to free the country from colonialism, gain independence and create the Azerbaijan People Republic.

Speaking at the ceremony, chairman of the Union of Azerbaijan Writers’, people's writer Anar called the opening of this cultural center after reconstruction an important event. He said that the museum reflects the spirit of the era of the great writer.

In conclusion, the great-grandson of J. Mammadguluzadeh Martin Javanshiri expressed gratitude for the great attention paid to the memory of his great-grandfather: “It is gratifying that the memory of J. Mammadguluzadeh is highly respected by the state and people. I could not imagine that such great love and respect in Azerbaijan are felt for him. I’m coming here for the first time and I hope that these visits will be regular.”

After cutting the red ribbon, the participants got acquainted with the exposition of the museum.
