The event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS.

Speaking at the event, the director of the center, Professor Farman Guliyev called the Khojaly genocide the worst tragedy of the last century and said that the atrocities committed by Armenians in the historic Azerbaijani lands violate war laws. He said that the city of Khojaly was destroyed in one night, 613 elderly and children were murdered, 150 were lost and 1,275 were taken hostage.

F.Guliyev said that after the second return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to political power in Azerbaijan, the true essence of the event was revealed, and delivered to the world community. On February 26, 1994, at the initiative of the great leader, a resolution was adopted by the Milli Majlis and declared February 26, the day of Khojaly genocide.

The head of the center said that as a result of the efforts of President Ilham Aliyev, First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, the Khojaly genocide has recognized by several countries of the world.
