History Museum of Sumgayit held an event devoted to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the chemical industry in our country on October 30.

First, President of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev and his entourage visited the head office of the Production Association "Azerkimya", where they got acquainted with the course of the test exam conducted by the Department of Human Resources. Head of the Department Asif Bekirli informed the guests about the vacancy and the test exams.

Then the participants visited the History Museum of the Sumgayit. Museum Director, Honored Azerbaijan Worker of Culture Olya Islamova briefed about the history of the museum and its exhibits. Here the participants got acquainted with the history of the development of the petrochemical industry of Sumgayit, as well as photographs and documents in connection with the employment of chemists for many years selflessly working in this area. 

Opening the event, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of production association "Azerikimya", MP Mukhtar Babayev, congratulated the Sumgait community with the 70th anniversary of chemical industry in Azerbaijan.

He noted that, the numerous visits of the President of Azerbaijan to Sumgayit in recent years, his attention to enterprises, establishment of the Chemical Industry Park, as well as relevant instructions and recommendations in this connection are the real manifestation of the care and attention to the prospective development of the petrochemical industry of Azerbaijan.

The carried-out specific projects, done works create strong confidence in the successful future of the petrochemical industry, in transformation of this area into one of powerful and reliable foundations of our state.

Speaking at the event SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev congratulated the city public, spoke about the history of the chemical industry, achievements and prospects. SOCAR President said that, in accordance with the program of the development of strategy of the chemical industry in the Sumgayit industrial zone were established the Chemical Industry Park, karbamit factory for the production of nitrogen fertilizers, which was founded by the Head of State, high-density polyethylene factory in the framework of the project "SOCAR Polymer", as well as a device for cleaning of new industrial wastewater. He regarded the awarding a group of chemists by the highest state awards on the occasion of the anniversary on the Order of the President of the country as a good example of the care and attention of our state on this field.

Akif Alizadeh stated two vital directions in a rapid and stable development of science. He spoke about notable scientists operating in the sphere of oil-gas and highlighted that scientists such as Yusif Mammadaliyev, Ali Guliyev, and Izzet Orujov have written their names to the history of chemistry with golden letters.

President of ANAS made speech on measures taken by national leader Heydar Aliyev due to consecutive strengthening of technical-production of the petrochemical industry, its thorough modernization and update. By instruction of Heydar Aliyev was launched polyethylene workshop with high-pressure (1969), and butyl-rubber workshops which capacity of 15 thousand tons per year (1971), as well as installed butadiene production facilities (1976), noted academician.

Today, AR President focus on petrochemical industry and by his Order “On the improving management mechanisms in the field of petrochemical industry” dated April 2, 2010, “Azerikimya” Prdocution Union was assigned to SOCAR. In this respect connective development of both enterprises was ensured. According to the scientist, strentheging oil-chemistry, oil-gas refining and raising efficiency of petrochemical industry and competitiveness are the key targets of the country.

Later on, by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated October 26, 2015, chemists were presented “Shohrat” order, personal Presidential scholarship and “Tereggi” medal.

Then, by the order of SOCAR’s president Rovnag Abdullayev 19 chemists were deserved to Honorary Orders and monetary prizes, including 10 individuals were awarded the prizes by the order of Sumgayit city Exectutive Power Zakir Farajov. In addition, “Azerikimya” Proction Union awarded 15 chemists with Honorary Orders and monetary prizes.

Event has been completed with peformation of Sumgayit secondary school #11.
