Ceremony of "Award SCOPUS” for the first time in Azerbaijan

On January 25, one of the world-renowned academic publishing house Elsevier Science, together with its collaborating Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the first time held an event and a gala evening with the aim of presenting "Award SCOPUS”.

At the event, Executive Director of the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elchin Babayev spoke about the state care on science.

It was noted that "SCOPUS Award Azerbaijan-2016" is a global initiative and Elsevier established to improve research in all fields of science in the country, support the efforts of researchers and organizations. The award aims to highlight the structures that have achieved the most significant results of the country conducted research and studies, published articles in influential publications and expands its international relations, as well as exclusive academic journals, motivate and encourage the Azerbaijani scientists in their academic activities.

SCOPUS Award Azerbaijan-2016 provides several nominations to the awards in two areas - high achievements in research and scientific journal.

At the event, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev, director of the Global Group of Companies RELX, which includes publishing house Elsevier, Corporate Affairs and Asian strategy Yongsuk Chi, Deputy Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on science and education Bakhtiyar Aliyev stressed the value of the presentation. It was noted that these initiatives show that Azerbaijan is open to the world of science and is taking decisive steps to be attached to the success of world science. Speakers stressed that the activities of the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was commendable.

It was noted that Elsevier offers scientific researchers around 2,500 journals and more than 33,000 electronic books covering such digital solutions with web databases like ScienceDirect, Scopus, Elsevier Research Intelligence, Clinical Key and well-known publications such as The Lancet and Cell. Elsevier is one of the companies RELX Group. RELX provides various solutions for the sectors of science, health, law and risk, and is one of the world's leading providers of information solutions. A Scopus - academic database that has the widest scope in the world, with the help of bibliometric tools it promotes tracking, analysis and visualization of scientific research investigators. It includes more than 22,000 titles of more than 5,000 books on technology, health, social, humanities and arts.

At the event were presented with special awards functioning in Azerbaijan, known excellent results abroad 4 research structures, as well as 5 journals on the basis of international evaluation criteria and the results of the selection based on the database SCOPUS and SciVal. Prizes were awarded to the Institute of Physics, Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of ANAS, Azerbaijan Technical University, Baku State University. ANAS and the Science Development Fund under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan received special awards for their contribution to the development of science in Azerbaijan.
