Azerbaijan National Academy of Science

A report was heard on April 20 in a meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science devoted to the “Reforms in ANAS and actual problems of Azerbaijan history in a modern era”. In his speech, the director of the Institute of History of ANAS, correspondening member of ANAS Yagub Mahmudov told about reforms carried out in recent years at the Institute of History: "The attention and care of national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev on the study of national history made it possible for today Institute of History to conduct radical reforms, fundamental research, in a word, to revive nation’s history.Director of the Institute noted that, according to the challenges, the recommendations and instructions of the President, in recent years, Institute published more than 300 works, among which should be noted such basic research as "Karabakh: real history, facts and documents", "Nakhchivan: history and monuments ", "Irevan khanate: Russian occupation and resettlement of Armenians in the territory of North Azerbaijan", a collection of documents in the three volumes of “Genocide against the Azerbaijani people in 1918-1920", which consists of four books, “Azerbaijani carpets: Irevan, Karabakh, Nakhchivan group", "Triumphal march of Heydar Aliyev's ideas", "Real history and fiction "Great Armenia", "Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani historical science”. Order of the President of the country on May 25, 2012 13 employees of the Institute were awarded the honorary title "Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan" for the series of works on the history of khanates - Karabakh, Nakhchivan and Irevan. Ya.Mahmudov also added that these studies have been translated into various languages of the world - Russian, English, Romanian, Italian, Spanish, Arabic etc. and distributed in several countries. The scientist noted that as a result of scientific studies carried out in the Institute of History were published fundamental works and collections of documents, containing a proof of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Karabakh, Zangezur, Irevan, Nakhchivan, around Lake Urmia and Eastern Anatolia.

According Yagub Mahmudov, for the study of the history of Azerbaijan by primary sources at the institute carried out the project "History of Azerbaijan in the primary sources": “The documents obtained from the archives of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Derbent, Makhachkala, Tbilisi, Astrakhan, Istanbul, Ankara, Paris, London, Berlin, Delhi, and other cities, are published as a multivolume and presented to researchers and mass of readers."

In the report it was noted that thanks to the project "Publication of the primary sources for the history of Azerbaijan" Institute of History has carried out academic publication of “History of Abbas Adorning the World” by outstanding representative of the Safavid historiography school Isgender bey Munshi from Persian language into native one."

The scientist stressed that an important component of the reforms carried out by the Institute is the revival of the collection "Publications".

In his speech, the speaker noted that the Institute of History of ANAS, joint with Presidium of ANAS and the Ataturk Center for Studies of the Republic of Turkey held 3 international scientific conferences dedicated to the genocide of Turkic-Muslim population by the Armenians in Azerbaijan and Eastern Anatolia.

Yagub Mahmudov said: "In 2012, the Oxford Summit of the Socratic International Committee awarded the Institute of History with a diploma “The best institution”, for its research activities".

For the above mentioned successes Director of the Institute was included in the list of outstanding scientists of the XXI century, deserved to honorary title "The Name in Science" in 2012 of the Socratic International Committee, and in 2013 - the diploma and the medal "Queen Victoria".

The reporter noted that in the framework of the project “Let’s posses our historical figures” aimed at studying the historical personalities of Azerbaijan, in different high schools and secondary schools of Baku were held scientific and practical conferences "Heydar Aliyev", "Shah Ismail Khatai", "Shah Tahmasib Safavid", "Nadir Shah Afshar ", “Agha Mohammad Shah Qajar”, "Woman-ruler Tomiris".

After listening to the report around the theme held extensive discussions. Presidium of ANAS made resolutions, which reflected issues such as the preparation of new publication of Azerbaijan history, an even greater expansion of the research studies on the history of Zangezur and Goyche, Irevan, Borchali, Derbent, South Azerbaijan and other territories, continuation of deep study of the genocide committed against the Azerbaijani people, and retrieval of documents in foreign archives, as well as providing academic publication of first volume of "Ahsan-at-Tavarikh" by Hasan bey Rumlu that translated into the Azerbaijani language.
