Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences

The book "Flora of Azerbaijan" was published by head of the Department Eco-botany and Systematics of the Institute of Genetic Resources of ANAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences Aydin Asgarov.

A new edition can be considered the first fundamental work in the Azerbaijani language, dedicated to the richness and variety of Azerbaijan flora.

The new edition includes information on more than 900 new groups related to 250 genus, identified by botanists and defined as a result of the researches conducted by authors since 1970 and also data on a condition of Karabakh flora before occupation.

The book provides detailed information on the 4961 form of embryophite belonging to 159 families and 1117 genus, including about 4557 species, distributed in the wild flora of our country.

The publication presents nomenclature of the list of plant species, approximated in accordance with the international nomenclature, extended in the Caucasus, including in Azerbaijan.

The new book describe about the rare and endangered 400 species, wild flora of Azerbaijan, its current state, ways of protection for future generations.

At the end of the book is given a list of endemic and sub-endemic plant species of Azerbaijan, as well as species that are included in the "Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan" (1989, 2013).

The book in volume of 444 pages includes about 300 photos related to Azerbaijan flora, in particular, its rare and endangered species.

The work is a valuable resource for students, botanists, ecologists, experts in flora of Azerbaijan, in particular, in the area of biodiversity of wild plants.
