ANAS Central Scientific Library started the international conference "Multiculturalism of Azerbaijan: development outlooks of the religion and language policy" on September 8.

The event was realized by ANAS Institute of Linguistics after Nasimi, Knowledge Foundation under President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations and the Baku International Multiculturalism Center.

The conference was opened by Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who spoke about the Azerbaijani of model multicultural values, which currently are relevant in our country. Speaking about the importance of AR President Ilham Aliyev Order on declaring "Year of multiculturalism" in 2016 in Azerbaijan, Academician Isa Habibbeyli noted that, by the initiative of the Head of the country multiculturalism has become one of the main directions of the state policy.

Vice-President of ANAS noted that, the Azerbaijani model of multiculturalism relies on 3 principles, which history ascends on national values, tolerance and Azerbaijanism.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that, from last year scientific researches dedicated to multiculturalism were carried out in ANAS, organized a series of events, as well as the presentation of the book "Literary and artistic sources Azerbaijan multiculturalism".

State Consultant of the Republic of Azerbaijan on multinational, multicultural and religious affairs Academician Kamal Abdullayev stated that, multiculturalism is a life style in Azerbaijan and tolerance traditions lead to centuries.

He said that multiculturalism is a centuries-old way of life of the Azerbaijani people, "There is a normally tolerant environment in Azerbaijan, where people of different nationalities and religions have the same rights and live in a friendly atmosphere for the centuries-old.”

Bringing to mind preaching and teaching of multiculturalism in different countries Academician Kamal Abdulla put to the fore importance of teaching this subject in the higher educational institutions.

It was mentioned that, interest in multiculturalism in Azerbaijan is a result of recognition of our country to the world as a country of historical values. The publishing of book "Literary-artistic sources of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan", writing of manual “Azerbaijani multiculturalism”, publishing of journal "Multiculturalism", a program of the same subject prepared and presented to universities in the world, benefit and necessity degree of subject “Azerbaijani multiculturalism”, which is taught in the world's 15 of higher educational ventures, once more demonstrates complexity, variety of our mission and its necessity for future.

At the conference, chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli noted that today multiculturalism has no analogue in the world. Azerbaijan historically preferred tolerant and multicultural values, where 96 percent of population has made up Muslims, representatives of all religions - Muslims, Christians and Jews live in peace and brotherhood for centuries.

Committee Chairman said that, solution all the problems of the world depends on religions, dialogues among civilizations, showing equal treatment and respect to the representatives of different religions, languages, cultures, as well as of different races, - in one word on multiculturalism.

Director of the Institute of Linguistics corresponding member of ANAS Mohsun Naghisoylu, deputy chairman of the Caucasian Muslims’ Office Gemer Javadli, Professor at the State Pedagogical University of Russia Marianna Dvoreskaya and others stressed out the importance and necessity of the topic.

The conference continued its work on sections. Lectures on following topics: “The constitutional and legal guarantees of freedom of conscience and the right to speak mother tongue”, "Modern state-religion relations in Azerbaijan”, “Art culture problems in Azerbaijani language on the ethnographic-vocabulary of the language of Azerbaijan tats”, “Kotan” term, which used in the languages of Caucasus peoples as a memory of the ancient cultural ties", "The preservation and development of cultural heritage of national minorities in the Republic of Azerbaijan", including "Heydar Aliyev as the founder of multiculturalism policy" will be listened in the sectional assemblies.
