 held a commemoration ceremony devoted to the 28th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.

Opening the event, Executive Director of the Foundation, Doctor of Philosophy in Physics and Mathematics Elchin Babayev spoke about the role of the January 20 tragedy in the history of Azerbaijan's independence. He noted that, this tragedy is a serious crime, purposefully committed by the leadership of the USSR against the Azerbaijani people: "The events of January 20 represent the morale, solidarity, determination, heroism and love for the Motherland of the Azerbaijani people. This story should be seen as the beginning of the path leading to independence".

E.Babayev stressed strong political will of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and expressed confidence that further details of the January 20 tragedy will be studied more deeply.

At the event, Director of the Institute of Linguistics after Nasimi NANA, academician Mohsun Nagisoylu and head of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ph.D. in Political Sciences, assistant professor Rajab Rahimli spoke about the political, legal and social aspects of the events of January 20 and noted that this date is an example of patriotism for the younger generation.

In conclusion, was demonstrated a short documentary devoted to the events of January 20.
