ANAS Institute of Oil and Gas held an event devoted to the mud volcanoes

ANAS Institute of Oil and Gas held seminar devoted to the mud volcanoes

The event was attended by Deputy Director of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, corresponding member of ANAS Dadash Huseynov, the department heads of the Institute, Doctors of geological-mineralogical sciences - Adil Aliyev, Chingiz Aliyev and scientists in this field from Norway, Russia.

The seminar was opened by vice-president of ANAS, Director of the institute, academician Ibrahim Guliyev. He informed the guests about the history, achievements and international relations of the enterprise.

Then, Ibrahim Guliyev delivered the report on the history of studying mud volcanoes. The scientist said that, Azerbaijan is known as a unique and classic development zone of mud volcanoes on the planet, and that there are about 350 mud volcanoes in our country.

He noted that, most of the mud volcanoes were spread in the Caspian Sea, Baku and Absheron peninsula, and in recent years, was studied their coordinates were detected by GPS and their activity.

Academician noted that, in our country, exists all the forms of mud volcanoes - active, extinguished, concealed, underwater and so on.

I.Guliyev said that, one of the world's 5 most active mud volcanoes which is located Lokbatan, on the territory Azerbaijan erupts every 3-10 years.

After listening the report on this issue were discussed.

The event listened report by a fellow at the Department of Earth Sciences of the Oslo University in Norway Dr. Adriano Mazzini on “Overview of mud volcanism”, representative of the Russian Irkutsk Institute of Limnology Oleg Khlistov on "The Baykal basin and local mud volcanism", employees of the Moscow State University - Grigory Ahmedov, " Mud Volcanism on the European margins and stratigraphic restoration from mud breccia", Elena Poludetkina on "Petroleum systems and their relation with sedimentary volcanism" and Andrey Bychkov on "Mud volcano geochemical modeling".
