Roundtable on "Current status and future prospects of ashug art "

A joint round table on "Current status and future prospects of ashug art" was held jointly by ANAS Institute of Folklore and International Mugham Center (IMC).

At the event held at the IMC, the history of Azerbaijan's ashug art has been reviewed, and today's concerns and future ways of development have become the subject of an analysis.

Director of the Institute of Folklore, academician Mukhtar Imanov spoke at the meeting and said that they are implementing the project "Dastan geceleri" together with the IMC. He noted that the main goal of the project is to preserve the tradition of ashug art and to bring it to future generations.

The academician said that about 400 ashugs are operating in our country today and about 1300 outside of Azerbaijan. He said that using the possibilities of modern technology, it is possible to convey the characteristics of ashug art to the world's people.

M.Imanov also underlined that today the tradition of master-pupils is gradually weakening.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the Ashugs Union, Professor Maharram Gasimli touched upon the universality of ashug art and stressed the necessity of consistent protection of these aspects of the people's spirit.

Doctor of philological sciences Seyfaddin Ganiyev, Professor Kamila Dadashzade, PhDs on Philology - Elkhan Mammadli, Nemat Gasimli, Gulhuseyn Kazimli, Altay Mammadli, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Ph.D. in art İrada Köçerli, Ph.D. in art Hafiz Karimov, well-known singers Jahangir Guliyev, Agamurad Israfilov and others spoke about modern problems of ashug art, propaganda in mass media.
