ANAS Nakhchivan Division held scientific conference “Khojaly tragedy: causes, consequences and lessons” devoted to the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

At the event, Chairman of the Division, academician Ismayil Hajiyev said that, occasionally treacherous Armenians carried out aggressive policy and shed the blood of innocent people in our land. Noted that, the unprecedented genocide committed by armed military units on night of February 26, 1992 by the USSR's 366th regiment, was directed not only Azerbaijan, but also against to whole mankind. Academician Hajiyev noted that, during the incident, 613 people were killed with extreme cruelty; hundreds of people were taken prisoner and hostage.

In his speech, chairman talked about announcing February 26th the “Day of the Khojaly genocide” by the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, about the work done by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, in particular the international campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, initiated by Vice-President Leyla Aliyeva.

The conference listened such reports as “Causes of the tragic path leading to the Khojaly tragedy”, “Khojaly tragedy - a crime against humanity, consequences of the tragedy”, “Cruelty of Armenian terrorist organizations in the Khojaly tragedy”.
