Three-volume monograph dubbed “Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was presented at International Press Center by organization of the Institute of Geography, October 14.
In the event, director of the institute, Acad. Ramiz Mammadov highlighted the importance of the edition.
This great fundamental work composed of books, "The physical geography of Azerbaijan", "Economic and social geography of Azerbaijan" and "Regional geography of Azerbaijan". Each of the works is approximately 500-600 pages dedicated to the topography, climate, landscape, water resources, including economic, and regional problems, was stated.
Speaking at the function of geography science, academician Ramiz Mammadov noted that in the first half of the XX century geography has already completed its function of describing, and shifted into a fundamental and applied science which studies individually and mutually development regularities of nature and natural processes. There is no area of the economy and social life, where geographic information is not needed and not been used achievements of geography science, he stated.
It was notified that, works on the different sections of Azerbaijan geography have been published many times in the last hundred years. But generalized Geography of Azerbaijan, which is useful for wide range of readers, including scholars, teachers and students of universities and secondary schools, and other professionals involved in land planning, has not been developed yet. It also paved the way for the development of three-volume.
Dean of the Baku State University department of geography Professor Farda Imanov, researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan Republic Araz Gurbanov, head department at the Institute of Geography, PhD in Geography Habil Hagverdiyev and others highly appraised this achievement of the institute and congratulated the scientists who contributed for developing of the edition.
