The next meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held on February 19.
The event was attended by the President of ANAS, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, members of the Presidium and invited persons on relevant issues.
Opening the meeting, President of ANAS, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev informed the participants about the current issues.
First, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev celebrated the 75th anniversary of the director of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, academician Valida Alizade, the corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Jafarov the 65th anniversary, the director of the Institute of Polymer Materials, the corresponding member of ANAS Bakhtiyar Mammadov the 80th anniversary and the corresponding member of ANAS Elshad Gurbanov presented the Honorary Decree of ANAS on the occasion of its 70th anniversary. Congratulating the jubilees, the head of ANAS wished them success in their future activities.
The next issues on the agenda - 75-year-old Jamil Aliyev, Director General of the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, one of the founders of the School of Diagnosis and Treatment of Modern Clinical Oncology and Breast Cancer in Azerbaijan, Vice-President of ANAS, Research Center Of “Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia” Director, well-known chemist, academician Tofig Nagiyev's 80th anniversary and corresponding member of ANAS Gorkhmaz Imanov's contribution to the development of economic cybernetics in Azerbaijan.
Then the issue of establishing a commission to monitor scientific research conducted at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS was submitted for discussion. Speaking on the issue, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev said that the new commission will work in various fields in order to eliminate the existing shortcomings in the work of this institute, which conducts important research in terms of solving socio-economic problems. Saying that the action program of ANAS should be mainly aimed at the development of people's scientific creativity, the head of ANAS said that practical steps should be taken to increase the scientific potential of scientists.
Rasim Agasiyev, Chief of the Department of Law and Personnel of the Presidium of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Law, brought to the attention of the Presidium a report on the results of inspections carried out at the institutes of Mathematics and Mechanics, Control Systems and Information Technologies of ANAS.
In conclusion, the President of ANAS, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev commented on the issues discussed and spoke about the importance of strengthening relations between the institutes of the Academy and higher education institutions to increase the prestige of Azerbaijani science. Emphasizing the importance of developing special programs in this regard, he noted that academic institutions should give priority to world standards, modernity and the selection of new relevant scientific directions in their scientific priorities.
