Institute of Botany of ANAS held seminar titled as "Enhancing food security in the low yield lands of the Aral and Caspian Seas".

The event was attended by the regional coordinator of the International Centre for the development of agriculture in saline soils (İCBA) Dr. Christine Toderich, representatives of the Center for Scientific Innovations ANAS, Department of Innovation of the Presidium of ANAS, Institute of Botany, Central Botanical Garden of Agri Bio EcoTech and other organizations.

Opening the seminar, director of the Institute of Botany, corresponding member of ANAS Valida Alizadeh noted the significance of the event. It was reported that the seminar is held within the framework of the project implemented in accordance with the memorandum signed between the Institute of Botany and İCBA. The project aims the rehabilitation of saline soils and creates a sustainable food base for the development of animal husbandry, improving degraded pastures, as well as the application of innovative technologies for the development of agro-forestry.

During the event, reports were presented by Christina Toderich delivered a lecture on "Complex (or multifunctional) usage of land with low yield and water in saline conditions (product diversification, agro forestry reclamation, pasture-cattle breeding system)" and PhD student of the Institute of Botany Aynura Dzhafarova on "Biological approach to the rehabilitation of lands low yield of the Kura-Araz lowland.”

Another part of the event was dedicated to monitoring the pilot area in the reference section of the Institute of Botany at the Kurdamir region and discussion of the project with local farmers.
